New Cell Phone
I got a new cell phone today. It's a Nokia 3390, the second smallest one. The smallest one was about $100 more and I couldn't afford it. I signed up for a plan with Cingular with 400 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends, free long distance, and free mobile to mobile. I conned the salesman into giving me a discount on the phone and a car charger. He was a little hesitant but I didn't budge until he gave in. Hopefully that is enough for me and my wallet. Two years ago I was with GTE and the service really sucked and I was charged for all sorts of things that I never used.

Losing My Keys and Packing Up
I woke up this morning (at about 8:30) because I heard my roommate shuffling around. I got up so that I could catch him before he left for Las Vegas and hit him up for half of the deposit on a new place to live. I then remember that I didn't get the mail yesterday because I spent 11 hours at work yesterday. I went to go look for my keys and I couldn't find them. I looked for a little while longer and still didn't find it. My room is was such a mess but that never bothered me before. My room is an organized mess and I know where everything is, almost.

After a while I still couldn't find the keys. I thought about when I last used them and where the last place I saw them was. I was at three places yesterday; home, school, and work. I already searched my home, but no success. I decided to go to work. I called work and asked if anyone saw my keys, but no one did. I decided to go myself and check it out (for personal satisfaction). I met a new person working there. Actually she has been working there for a couple weeks and our schedules never allowed up to meet. I thought she was pretty cool, but anyway I didn't find any keys.

The last place I checked was the school but no one had turned anything in. I thought to my self, "Where the hell could it be?" Something in my mind kept saying my car, but I searched it through. I gave up for a little while and went to eat at Burger King with some friends.

I decided to continue my housing search after lunch. I filled out an application for an apartment that I looked at and went to the realty office to turn it in. I found out that someone may possibly be renting it out, but it is still pending. I was a little disappointed. The apartment was really cool and right near downtown SLO.

I went home bummed, and tried to find my keys again. They weren't in the other places so they had to be around here somewhere. I started packing up to move so that I could clean my room at the same time. It's kind of sad because I don't have a place to live yet. I don't have much time because I start working in Santa Barbara next Wednesday and won't be here for a while. Actually until the end of July, and our lease ends on the 31st. I've filled up 6 crates of stuff and 4 cardboard boxes. I'm about half done with packing. Then I found it! The damn keys were right next to my bed under a piece of paper that I didn't think moved for a couple days. I had picked up my wallet and car key earlier and they were right next to it.

In the end I found my keys and am happy about that, but I packed up my stuff and it's kind of sad. Time to go to bed....

[San Luis Obispo, CA]

Being a Local
My friend Pat came up from LA yesterday and we did all sorts of stuff here in Central Cal. I didn't know what to do but show him what all the tourists go to see and places to go eat. Being a local to the San Luis Obispo area, I've put off doing many things until later.

One thing is the local restaurants that people suggest. Working at a hotel, I always suggest restaurants to guests based on their reputations and what I've heard from others. There are three restaurants across the street from the hotel that I always refer people to yet I have never eaten at any one of them. I've even suggested a Cajun restaurant that serves alligator. I don't know if I ever want to try that. We went to a restaurant today called The Great American Fish Company. We were just driving by and decided to eat there. I had heard much about it recently. A couple scenes in a new Sandra Bullock movie were filmed there. It was a great place to eat and a great atmosphere. The restaurant was right next to the water and we had window seats.

Tourist attractions are the other thing. Down here Hearst Castle is the biggest attraction. I've been up there several times. I found out when I started working at the hotel that it was California's second most popular attraction after Disneyland. There is also a famous restroom here in town. It is located in the men's restroom at Madonna Inn. All sorts of people can be seen going into the "Men's" restroom. In the men's restroom the sinks are made out if giant clam shells. The pisser is a waterfall that activates when you break the laser.

I'm pretty sure I'm leaving this out because I haven't done them yet. I know other people who are the same. My friends in Japan did things for the first time when I was with them in their hometowns. In New York, where I was expecting to move this year, I didn't do any tourists things while I was there. I just went around with my cousin and did his daily things there. I thought that I would be able to do those things when I moved there. Don't take these local things for granted because I think you'll miss them when you are gone and wish you had done them. I'm off to plan what to do next.

benedictcorpuz.com
I've already registered the domain name for my site. I'm jsut waiting for the DNS servers to kick-inn. Many thanksto my friend Bernie in Switzerland. He is hosting my site on his company's computers. He is a co-owner in a company that specializes in internet services and web site design. I've been out of the mix for so long. I hope I can still remember HTML.

No need for Schedules
I realized that I have no set schedule at work. I just compared a bunch of schedules form the last couple months and I noticed that I work all sorts of random days. A whole bunch of other people just got hired and they have set schedules already. I haven't had a weekend off since I started working here. I know... I need to ask for a damn raise and be stern about it. They can't function here without me. I cover any shift and all sorts of jobs here like Breakfast Bar, Morning Shift, Night Shift, and the midnight Audit shift which only 3 people know how to do. I've been here over a year now. 14 months to be exact. I've put out brush fires while here, chased down criminals, and even fixed old people's cars. I don't get the respect that I need around here, but I need to be here to pay the extremely high rent in SLO.

SLO Housing
It's now hella expensive to live here. My rent for a 2 bedroom apartment is currently $850 a month with water and trash included. Come August 1st the rate will jump up to $1195 a month. The landlords decided to do away with the per person rates and just go with the flat 4 person rate regardless of how many people are actually staying. I also do a lot of bitch work for the land lord like giving them rides back home or fixing other peoples problems when it's late at night. But my roommate and I decided that we want to move out into someplace better like a house. We're looking around the $1000 range for a 2 bedroom house, but the openings are scarce in SLO. Houses are picked up as soon as they are listed up for grabs. There are a couple listing out there for apartments, but I'd rather live in the privacy of a house without the prying eyes of neighbors walking by. I've got about 1 week to find a new place or else I might be stuck paying the $1195 to stay in my current complex. All I can say is that greedy landlords suck!
