[Home, SLO, CA] See Canyon All I wanted to do was go for a drive in the mountains tonight with a couple of people. The plan was to take the van and just drive through and see the outdoors where there is no electricity so that we could have a clear view of the night sky. Screwed Up Plans One guy decided to start calling everybody so that we could fill up the van. I didn't want anymore than 8 people because the ride was going to be bumpy and we would lose the cohesion of the group as little subgroups will be formed. We ended up with 12 people. I just wanted to bring like 5 or 6. I spent and hour and a half picking people up. The more people I picked up meant that I had more poeple to drop off later on. It was very foggy in the canyon so we couldn't stop anywhere. It was a little dangerous to be driving at that time, but it was still kind of fun. We ended up back in SLO, but every one was confused as to what to do. Too Many People Again Although I like to be around many people, I hate being in charge of large groups [see previous Blog]. We can never decide on anyhting when we're trying to figure out what to do. Some people decided to go back to their house and drink while others wanted to drink somewhere else. In the end I had to take some people home and then join another group. In the end I was able to relax and let my stress off. posted at 3:25 AM by Super Ben Friday, September 07, 2001 [CCLA, SLO, CA] Hearst Castle I spent most of my day at Hearst Castle doing another Hearst Castle Tour. I've done that so many times now. Hearst Castle is the former home of the newspaper tycoon, William Randolph Hearst. It was embarassing because I brought 14 students along. They talked the whole way through and other people on the tour kep telling them, "Shhhhhhhhhh..." They weren't paying any attention to what the guide was saying. They were also doing many things they shouldn't have. It was really embarassing for me becuase the guides knew I was the leader of the group and they probably thought I couldn't handle it. I tried to keep them quit and listening to the guide, but they just didn't want to. "Screw it " I thought and went on and enjoyed the tour on my own. After the tour was over we were able to see the IMAX film, "Building the Dream," which gave a glimpse into the vision of Hearst. There was a promotion this summer which included this film in the tour package for free. I looked back at everyone at one point and 12 out of 15 people in our group fell asleep. It was pretty funny because everyone's head was tilted at the exact same angle. posted at 6:50 PM by Super Ben Thursday, September 06, 2001 [Home, SLO, CA] Losing 12 Gigbytes of Data I can't belive that I may have lost 12 gigs of data. I think that half of it wasn't backed up. There were about 5 rolls of film that I developed and then scanned on that partition. There were about 4 gigs of mp3, but i don't really care about those. I think I also had all of my schoolwork there too. A lot of it was schoolwork that came all the way from high school. I usually back up every six months, but I think I will now back up more often. I just realized that I could do a lot of work in 6 months and it can all be erased just as easily. posted at 9:57 PM by Super Ben Wednesday, September 05, 2001 [Holiday Inn Express, SLO, CA] Cell Phone Airtime Today we got a call at work and nobody14 answered when we picked up. I handed i off to my orkmate and he listened for a while and then I got it back and realized that it was someones cell phone. It must have dialed us up when it was in their pocket. We listened for a while and heard them go into Starbucks and then went somewhere, maybe back home or in the hotel to watch some tennis. We kept the line open so that it would use their minutes. They jsut kept watching TV. We kept putting the phone on hold when we would get an incoming call. I don't think they heard the recording that comes on when we put people on hold. All in all I think we used up at leat and hour and a half of theit minutes. they were daytime minutes too. those are hte most precious. Maybe when they get their bill they'll learn their lesson and turn on they keyguard next time. It happened to me before but for only a short time like 2 minutes. not 100 minutes like thesepoor people. Happy Dog While at work today my workmate came to pick up her paycheck. She brought her dog along. We decide to have a little fun. Check out my Happy Dog page. posted at 11:34 PM by Super Ben [Home, SLO, CA] Changing the Channels Today I turned on the TV to watch Tech TV on channel 59 but what I found was VH1. I then went to check CNN Headline News on Channel 14, but that was QVC. I forgot that Charter Cable was changing the channels today. It is very disorienting when they do that. now I need to relearn all of the channels. It's like when you move to a new place or watch TV at a hotel in another city. You can figure out what channel is what. My favorite channels are below. old --> new 59 --> 54 TechTV 14 --> 41 CNN Headline News 51 --> 47 Animal Planet 17 --> 29 Discovery Channel National Geographic 71 (This one stayed the same becuase the channel was added about a month ago to the system) I think it'll take me about a week to relearn the channels. posted at 11:24 AM by Super Ben Tuesday, September 04, 2001 [Work, SLO, CA] No Parking! As I'm driving home at 7am, I am thinking of the moment that I get to lay my head down on my pillow, but as I turn into my apartment complex I find that I can't park there. each apartment has one space marked for it. There are 4 spaces unmarked so that the apartments whose tenants have more than 1 car can park in the lot also. up to now I've never had a problem with it. I've been here a month now. I had to park about a block down because there wasn't any street parking anywhere near. i'm kinda pissed off, but I wanna go to bed. posted at 7:41 AM by Super Ben Monday, September 03, 2001 [Work, SLO, CA] A 30-cent Tip Tonight I got someone an ice bucket because he didn't have one in his room and he gave me a 30 cent tip. I have never gotten a 30 cent tip before. Is a 30 cent tip even legal? I thought there was some kind of unsaid law that $1 is the minimum. I saw him holding the quarter and nickel and I thought he was gonna go to the soda machine or something. I tried to refuse it when he tried to give me the coins. I think I was shocked at the time, but he insisted and I took it in the end. I was shocked for a while after. Cracked Crab Today we went to Pismo Beach to go eat at a restaurant called Cracked Crab. I saw a commercial on TV for the restaurant and saw the crab get dumped onto the table in front of the customers. I thought to myself that this was a restaurant that I definitely had to go to. So anyways it came to be that today was the day. I brought a couple of friends with me but they didn't want to eat any crab because it was so expensive. That was the whole purpose of going there. I ordered some snow crab and king crab. Sure enough they came by and dumped it on the table in front of me. [click for pics] It was so good and I was stuffed. Surfs Up at a Foggy Beach We went for a walk afterwards through town to Pismo Pier. There were so many people on the beach, but it was really foggy. You couldn't really see the other side of the beach because of it. Pirate's Cove Because of the different micro-climates that San Luis Obispo county has, it was very sunny at Pirates Cove, which is only 7 minutes away from Pismo Beach. From Pirates Cove you can see how thickt he fog is at Pismo. I showed my friends around the place because they have never been there before. I showed them the cave where there have been many a party. I also showed them the nude beaches there. They were shocked to find out that there were nude beaches in the area. All in all it was a pretty good day. posted at 3:24 AM by Super Ben Sunday, September 02, 2001 [Work, SLO, CA] Fighting the Sandman I almost dozed off earlier and I started to play The Legend of Zelda on my Gameboy Advance. The batteries were about to go out when I heard a deep thud. It was the Sunday paper. Now it's about 5:30am here at work and I just got done going through the advertisements. It came here in the nick of time. I think I would have fallen alseep if the batteries went out on my Gameboy. I look forward to the Sunday paper every week. The ads that I like to look at are the ones from Best Buy, Staples, Toys R Us, Kmart, Target, and especially the comics section. I have to find more ways to keep my mind awake! Website Woes I just realized why it took me a couple years to finally get a site back up. Site building is very tedious. I've updated my adventures section and listed some adventures that I have done. I have yet to do the individual pages and add pictures. I am also experimenting with CSS (cascading style sheets). Did you notice that my links aren't underlined? Or the scroll bar to the right is a different color? Those are a result of CSS sheets. I'm still learning more about them. I'll also add a section of websites that I used to have up, or maybe a section of unfinished sites. I also have to get my "Commodorks" page up so that we can keep track of all of our classmates from Commodore Stockton Skills School. My friend Pat and I have been compiling a list of whatever happend to all of our Elementary School buddies. As for a guestbook... I am still looking for the right CGI script for it. I want the form and the responses to be on the same page. I also want the program to log the IP of those signing it. I'm still proposing to redo the site with Adobe GoLive and giving it a whole new look. I've got 2.5gigs of pictures that I want to put up as well. As you can see there is so much work I still have to do. When I do get it up, updating it will be easy. I know there are already a couple of you readers out there. Since I don't have a guestbook yet, drop me a line at webmaster@benedictcorpuz.com and tell me what you think I should add. “ú–{Œê‚Í‚¾‚¢‚¶‚傤‚ÔB I was also thinking of getting friends of mine to translate my main pages into other languages like Japanese, Chinese, Korean, German, Swiss, and Italian. Wouldn't that be something? Building a Computer for My Brother My brother gave me $1000 to build him a computer. It's so hard to decide on something with so many options out there. I decided to get him an Athlon 1.4Ghz chip for sure and a decent motherboard on top of that. He also wants a printer and monitor included inthe budget. It's gonna be a little tight. He also asked if he could get an ATI All-in-Wonder video card in there. I have to get an AGP one just so he'll be top of the line. I'm also gonna get him a CDRW/DVD combo drive since he already has the hardware decoder. As for sound I was thinking of a Sound Blaster Live Soundcard. I'll add at least 256MB of RAM since it is so cheap these days. I got him an optical mouse with a scroll wheel already. What else am I missing? Oh yeah, the keyboard, speakers, and... the freaking A: drive. I almost forgot about that. I hardly use that thing anymore. I'm pretty sure tha ti could pull this thing off in under a thousand dollars. posted at 5:46 AM by Super Ben |
