Morro Bay Harbor Festival
The Morro Bay Harbor Festival is the big thing that is goign on this weekend here on the Central Coast. A bunch of friends and I decided to go today. I jsut wanted to go and eat so that I could get back to SLO early. We get there and realize that there is a $6 charge to get in. This is the first time that I have seen a public event charge for admission here on the Central Coast. I did notice high security at the entrance to the festival. It looked the same as SLO's weekly Farmer's Market. Come to think about it, SLO's Farmer's Market looked more appealing that MB's Harbor Festival.

Fixing Up My Computer
I went out and bought another video card today because my old one didn't support dual monitors. Since I got my Sony Flat Panel monitor I would like to be able to use it. I sacrifice the TV tuner so that I could run my computer in dual monitor mode. I'll have to order a separate TV tuner this time. Maybe it's time for me to get a new motherboard as well. Possibly a new system maybe.

Two Weeks Down
Two weeks of school down and eight more to go plus one more for finals week. Schools going well so far and I think I'm going to do really well. I did change my philosophy class to Credit/No-Credit grading becuase of how hard it is. The class just happens to start too early at 9am and run till 11am. My 2 classes with labs are a little killer on the mind. There is so much to study. My Physics lecture is fun because the instructor is a great guy. Dr. Echols teaches us by using everyday object to demonstrate examples. He also jokes around a lot. My day seems longer because the 1 1/2 hour Physics lecture is right before my 3 hour Biology Lab. My Biology class has the lectures from 12-1pm Mondays and Wednesdays. I get really sleepy after eating lunch. My Biology labs seem long, but they don't run the whole 3 hours. Everybody is usually gone in 2. We had a very interesting Biology class today, read below.

Disecting a Grasshopper
My hands still smell of the formaldehyde (sp?). I came into my Biology lab thinking that we were just gonna look at things again and memorize their names. We instead ended up with HUGE dead grasshoppers in front of us which we had to take apart and glue the parts onto a piece of cardboard. I have never seen bugs these huge. Pulling off the legs and antennae were easy but we also had to take apart the head and identify and paste the different parts of the mouth, mandibles, tongue, and eye. It was really sick. My guy had only one jumping leg. Also there were only 4 tweezers/forceps for a class of 20 people. This was the sickest thing I had to do in my college career. I can still picture the bugs juicing as we took them apart. This guy is actual size on a 17 inch monitor with a resolution of1024 x 768.

Fixing My Phaser
This 5 day Star Trek: The Next Generation marathon is totally turning me back into a Trekkie. I decided to pick up my Type II Phaser and put batteries in it. It made the sounds, but the light didn't work. thinking it was the batteries, I tried using other batteries. It still didn't work. So I decided to take it apart and mess around with the insides. While fixing it I thought to myself that I was being really nerdy doing this and decided to write about it so that I could share my experience. I wonder if new phasers are created or are they just replicated. What happens to old materials as well. Do they go back into the replicators?

Becoming a Trekkie
I was flipping through the channels and saw Star Trek: The Next Generation was on so I started watching it. Then during the commercial break I saw that it was a marathon, a 5-day marathon. I got started during a marathon. It was the marathon right before the end of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I may have watched a couple of the shows 2 weeks before but realy got into it during the weekend marathon. At the very end of it the final epidode, "All Good Things," was shown. After that I was hooked. I watched more eruns of The Next Generation. I counted down until the start of Star Trek: Voyager. I also met up with other Trekkies at school. We even made a Sci-Fi club at school. It was pretty popular. From that we had a spin-off club call U.F.O.S., Uncovering Freaky Occurrences and Sightings. That I will write about later.

[University Union- CalPoly State University, SLO, CA]

First Blog from CalPoly
I came to school early again so that I could find parking. It took me less than 10 minutes this time. I had about an hour to kill before my 1:30pm class. I ran into jian ou Yang, a friend of mine from high school. He's down the way chatting with one of this friends right now as I am typing this on one of the public internet acess stations on the second floor of the University Union.

Bike Parking
While I was eating my bagel this morning waiting for my Philosophy class to start, I sat across from a bike rack. Class time was getting near and more people started to come. I then noticed bicyclist coming and finding out that they couldn't park their bikes on the rack. I saw about 4 people turn around. Some people got desperate and locked their bikes to a tree and a pole that was nearby. Here these people are trying to keep the pollution down and evading the traffic, but are running into traffic themselves. You know there is a problem when the people trying to help the problem out are becoming part of it.

Irish Spring
As I was in the shower with my bar of Irish Spring in hand, I was reminded of somehting that I used to do in my childhood. I blame it on TV. When Irish Spring first came out they had these commercials where and Irishman would cut the soap so that he could smell the freshness. Of course it was TV and it looked perfect. I could never get the cut right like he did. I didn't only do that to Irish Spring but to other soap bars around the house as well. Gee, the power of TV...
