[Pat's New Apartment, Santa Monica, CA] Coming to LA I came down to LA last night because my friend Pat wanted me to come down for a get together that he was having. He just got his first BA Degree in History (or Sociology?). He's not graduating yet because he is a double major. He's gonna get his Sociology (or History?) degree in March and finally graduate. Commodorks I've known Pat since we were in third grade back at Commodore Stockton Skills School. He lives with another friend of ours, Adam, also a Commodork. Pat also invited Chris, another Commodork, to come down from UC Santa Barbara. It was a Commodork mini-reunion. Our school was small, with only 120 people per grade. It was a Kindergarten thru 8th Grade school and most poeple scholled there the whole time. I got there when I was in 3rd Grade, a little later than everyonne else. It was OK because I fit in real well. I've made many lifetime friends from there. The school was more like a family because you saw the same people all of the time from year to year. In 7th and 8th grade was when we really got to know each other because we all mixed with each other in our different classes. Pat and I have been compiling a list of what everyone has been doing and will be creating a page based on it. There were only 120 of us so it won't be too hard to do something with everyone. Completing this task is another one of my winter break goals. posted at 9:58 AM by Super Ben Friday, December 14, 2001 [Pat's New Apartment, Santa Monica, CA] Traveling I love to travel. Today I drove from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles to see my friends Pat, Adam, and Chris. All of them are friends of mine from elementary school. As I was driving down the 101 freeway, I was thinking about how beautiful California is. Leaving San Luis Obispo I went from the hills to a beautiful view of the ocean and beaches. After that I drove through farmland and then back through mountains before emerging right next to the ocean with a great view of the Channel Islands. Around the islands are oil rigs that really mess up the scenery, but a necessity in California to power our cars (but that's another subject). After spending a while with the ocean from Santa Barbara to Ventura, I crossed ove the mountains into San Fernando Valley's urban environment. I sat through traffic going down the 101 and the 405 before finally reaching my destination in Santa Monica. It is amazing how many different places you can go through in one day. I went from the small quiet town to the big bustling city while enjoying the beautiful and the ugly in my travels. Going to Japan Last year today, I was on an airplane headed to Japan. I spent 3 weeks there and experienced a Japanese Christmas and New Year. I had a great time there. I wanted to go again this year, but decided to stay here and spend the holiday with my family. Besides, I really don't have any money to go. I could have used my airline miles and gone there on a free ticket because United has a sale on award travel. I traveled as much as I could and stayed with many of my friends while in Japan. I went as far South as Kyoto and as far north as Fukushima (about an hour north of Tokyo). Winter Break Goals One of my goals during winter break is to get more of my stuff up on my site. I have so many pictures that I want to share with othes. I'm going to get my Japan trip pictures up. I actually have two Japan trips that I want to get up, my 3 week adventure from last year, and my weekend excursion from the year before. There are also my everyday pictures that I want to get up. Right now I was thinking of some pictures that me and a couple of friends took while we had a stupid little drinking party. We got almost naked. Let's jsut say all that we were wearing were toilet paper rolls and tape. It was very funny. I'm not sure if I want to put that up at all. posted at 8:33 PM by Super Ben Thursday, December 13, 2001 [Home, SLO, CA] New Job I don't know whether I am lucky or not, but another job fell on me. This one comes from the husband of the manager of my hotel. She called me up and asked me if I wanted to do it. It sounded promising so I agreed. His job is to go out and make reports on incidents in which the owners blame the car companies for their mishaps. He fills out all sorts of reports and downloads data fom the cars computer. Then he uses his digital camera to snap pictures of the cars if there was any type of damage. The job that I was given is to type out all of his written reports and to help him compile the data files and pictures so that he could send them to Detroit so that the big car companies will know whether these mishaps were caused my human error or by the vehicle itself. I, myself believe it is the former; people are always getting into accidents and blaming it on others. posted at 2:57 PM by Super Ben Tuesday, December 11, 2001 [Home, SLO, CA] 3 Months and a Surprise Three months have already passed since the 9/11 attacks. The images I saw on TV are really vivid in my mind. I can still remember the smell from when I was in New York at the site last month. I was watching the news today and saw the reports of all the silences and vigils and ceremonies all around the world to remember those who were lost in the attacks. A little later I went out and brought some friends home. I showed them a bunch of pictures and when I got to my New York trip from last year (Oct 2000), I came upon a picture that I took of the World Trade Center Towers. I was so surprised to see that picture. I didn't think that I took the picture. Otherwise I would have posted up something about it. Stay tuned for my previous adventures. posted at 9:24 PM by Super Ben Monday, December 10, 2001 [Home, SLO, CA] Rating People When I got to work last night I signed onto AOL Instant Messenger. On the TODAY window that popped up there was a "rate a picture" link. My workmate saw that and immediately clicked on it. He had never heard of that before. After he went through the aol pictures, I told him there were more sites like that. We found AmIHot.com and RatingPeople.com. He spent quite a bit of time on these sites. I popped in every so often to help him rate, but at the same time I was trying got get my work done. But it is pretty interesting. I don't know that I would ever put up my picture on a site like that. I guess I'm afraid of getting low ratings, but who knows? posted at 2:25 AM by Super Ben Sunday, December 09, 2001 [Home, SLO, CA] No Sunday Paper I'm disappointed that the sunday paper never came today. I'm about to leave work and I haven't seen the ads yet. I usually get the paper here by now. My day is off to a bad start. posted at 6:49 AM by Super Ben |
