[Home, SLO, CA] Having People Over I love having people over at my place. The feeling one gets when they're surrounded by the people they care about is indescribable. I also find it greta that I don't have to cater to their needs. I just let them go at it with my stuff. I just got up because I took a nap before going to work tonight. They all stayed teh whole time and played games and watched TV with each other. That's one good thing I learned from dorm life. I always left my door open to anyone that would want to enter. People would always be in and out of my room becuase I always had the fun stuff going on. The same hold true these days. I don't know what I'd do without people around. I might turn into a bitter old man. posted at 9:41 PM by Super Ben [Home, SLO, CA] Check Yourself Out The K-Mart in Arroyo Grande is pretty amazing. They are some of the few K-Marts that are testing out the "Self Check Out" stands. It's really cool cause you just scan your own stuff and bag it. You can pay with cash by inserting it into the cash machine, or by card by swiping and signing the electronic pad. I made it difficult for my payment. I used a K-Mart gifrt card in combination with my ATM card. The machine was giving me funny numbers, but the supervisor assured me that it would only charge me the total amount minus the giftcard amount. I forsee this being commonplace in the stores of the future. posted at 11:27 AM by Super Ben Thursday, December 20, 2001 [Home, SLO, CA] Fat Ass Steak Tonight, about nine of us went out for dinner at a place called Jocko's in Nipomo. Nipomo is about 20 minutes south of San Luis Obispo and it was a difficult drive last night. It was pouring and at times, we couldn't see through the windshield. We were beginning to wonder if this place that Tetsushi wanted us to go to was worth the long drive. When we got to the place, the name, Jocko's, rang a bell in my mind. Some of my friends suggested this restaurant and told me that they served really large steaks. I was feeling like I wanted to spend money so I ordered Filet Mignon. The steak I got was rather large to be a Filet Mignon, but it was really good. We even got a chance to see the steaks cooking while we waited. I've never had a Filet Mignon this big. Losing Wheel Cover After dinner we all headed back towards San Luis Obispo. About 10 seconds after we entered the freeway, I noticed a round object roll from beside Masa's (my roommate) car and roll off to the side in front of our car. I though it was his wheelcover so we tried to speed up to see if it really was. We passed him, but on the wrong side so we pulled back into the slow lane so that he could pass up on the left. Sure enough he lost his front passenger-side wheel cover. I had jsut bought him a wheelcover for his rear passenger-de side wheel as a birthday present. We all just thought that it was really funny to see that happen. It's a good thing we were driving behind him instead of in front. I think I'll go try to find it tomorrow. posted at 11:03 PM by Super Ben Wednesday, December 19, 2001 [Home, SLO, CA] Dang! It was bright today. It was pretty darn bright today. It was also very warm. Is it really December? I took of my sweatshirt while sitting outdoors in the sun. I was chilling, eating lunch, while wearing just a t-shirt. Anyways, I broke my sunglasses a while back. I only had this pair for like 2 months though. The pair I had before that, I had for over a year. That's why I buy cheap ass sunglasses. I never pay more than $20 or something. Maybe that's why they're always breaking. The second to last one that I had (over a year) was only $12 when I bought it. This last one was only $8. Maybe I need to invest in some expensive glasses. posted at 8:10 PM by Super Ben [Home, SLO, CA] Wireless Keyboard II I finally got the stuff. I found it for cheaper at Costco. It was only $79 and I didn't have to pay tax because my friend Jason used his business license to forego the taxes. It took a while to set up, but I finally got both devices up and running. They're pretty sweet. I'm pretty happy with them. If only I could upgrqade the rest of my computer. posted at 12:15 AM by Super Ben Tuesday, December 18, 2001 [Anime Express, SLO, CA] Wireless Keyboard I've been looking at this Cordless Freedom Optical wireless keyboard and mouse set for a while. I've finally decided to go out and buy it since I got a bonus yesterday and the rebates in the mail. I did a little research and saw that it was $119 at BestBuy and $109 at Circuit City. I then went to the Logitech site and saw that their MSRP is $99. This is a pretty cool set because it has both the wireless keyboard and a wireless and optical mouse. The mouse alone is $60. I'm off in a bit to go out and get it. posted at 4:43 PM by Super Ben [Home, SLO, CA] Money In the Mail Today I got $80 in rebates in the mail. I though I would never see them, but here they are. I had sent these off last September. The rebate forms said 6-8 weeks, but it was more like 8-10. I got $55 in rebates about 3 weeks ago. Those came in their 4-6 week promised range.Rebates almost feel like free money. when you buy a product, you already spend the money. You really don't spend that "after rebate" amount becuase you spend the full amount now and won't see any money till later. By the time you get the money you might have forgotten about it and when it does show up, it'll be a pleasant surprise. I'm happy cause I got an extra $80 in my pocket. I think I should pay down one of my credit cards with that money that i never expected. posted at 2:59 AM by Super Ben Monday, December 17, 2001 [Holiday Inn Express, SLO, CA] Canadian Accent Someone told me tha tI had a Canadian Accent. I don't think I have one or that I speak differently from others around me. I've lived in California my whole life, I think I should have a "California" Accent. Although when I came back form my Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, my friends said I had a different accent when I came back, but it was a tad subtle. I've heard that people can pick up accents, but I think that you'll always stick to your native speech. Students that I have worked with tell me that my speech is much more clear than the speech of other Americans. This leads me to think that I do in fact speak a tad different than others. They are always complimenting my speech and how they can clearly understand me. I do like to talk a lot, but I don't think that's it. Maybe it's just my personality that they are understanding. I'm nto really sure. posted at 3:04 AM by Super Ben |
