Dinner
Since there was no one available todsay and he hasn't had an enjoyable birthday for a long time, Masa and I decided to take Fuminori out to dinner for his birthday. We ended up going to a steak restaurant called Tahoe Joe's. we ordered up great steaks. I had the steak and chicken dinner, Masa had Filet Mignon, and we got the special of the day for Fuminori which was the 20 oz T-Bone steak. The girl kept messing up tonight. She brought Masa sirloin instead of the filet. One of the plates we recieved had a piece of a rubber glove. She forgot to bring back Fuminori's Coke. But she did bring us a huge piece of cheese cake with a candle in it for Fuminori's birthday.

Prime Rib and Lobster
Tonight we had an unexpected phat dinner. Dr. Asai had invited us to his house for a dinner party. It was part of traditional Japanese New Year's festivities of the first 3 days of the year. Little did we know that we were gonna eat prime rib and lobster. I didn't even know about the lobster until they brought up tha fact that no one knew how to cook it. So it was up to me to research it on the internet. I found out that it was easy to cook. Just add salt to water and boil the lobster for 10-22 minutes. So I went to the kitchen and pre[ared the boiling water, added the salt and went for the lobster. As I was picking it up, it started moving. It was alive!!! I picked it up with my hands, but I had to put it down. It started flinching when I put it near the pot. It must have sensed its impending doom. Then I had to try tongs but they were too small to hold it. So Dr. Asai had to go outside to get larger ones. Then I was finally able to put the first one in. It moved for a while then stopped as it turned bright red. Then the second and then it was time to eat. It was certainly a great dinner.

Happy New Year
I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy 2003 Day!

"More than you can drink"
Last night I spent my new years eve at my favorite Japanese restaurant, Tsurugi. This is my second New Year's party there. And it was all you can drink Sake (it's SAH-Keh not SAH-keeee). We also had beer and champagne. We got to the restaurant at 8:00 pm and stayed until after midnight. I had to limit myself because I had to be here at work at 7am today. We ate so much Japanese food. More than our fill. It was great. I also mingled with a lot of the regulars. It's kind of bad when the regulars know who all the other regulars are. We knew who each other was, but we never knew each other. But some of them I had already met through other means. But we had a great time. I had my fill and it was a good night. Happy New Year!

Second Row
Today we went to see Catch Me if You Can in Arroyo Grande because of the stadium seating. We went to the 3:15 show because it was matinee and left the house at 2:30, but when we got there there wa sa long line for Two Towers and another long line to buy tickets. When we got inside, we were surprised to see the theatre full. There were three of us and there were plenty of sets empty, but none of them 3 in a row. The only other place we could go was the front and that is where we found space in the second row, just to the left of center. It wasn't as bad as when I saw Jurassic Park from the front row many years ago, but I still didn't like it. I don't like haveing to move my eyes just to see the whole screen.

Random Thought: Changine Yumi's Tickets
About a year and a half ago, a friend of mine came to visit the US for a little bit from Japan. She was planning to stay like 3 weeks or something. It was nearing her departure date, but she wanted to stay longer. So I helped her change the ticket. She stayed a week or 2 more. When the next departure date came, Shinya and I, took her ticket and called the number to change it. Yumi didn't know we were doing that at the time. I called and told them I was assisting a friend that didn't speak english. And that she wanted the date changed to one week later. So when she got home, she started packing and we kept dumping her suitcases out. We finally told her that we changed the ticket again. She wasn't mad. I guess she was just happy or somethihng, but she wanted to see her boyfriend in Japan. And then one week later, her plane was supposed to take off at 8:10am. Shinya and I conspired to do something else funny. We decided to take her late. She kept pestering and pestering us and next thing we knew it was 8:05. That was when we finally decided to start getting to the car. But it takes 10 minutes to get to the airport. More time to check in, and the plane probably closed its doors. She got fed up and just sat down at watched TV. We were gonna take her, but now she didn't want to go. We ended up turning Yumi's 3 weeks into 2 months. I'll never forget this, and I don't think she will either.
