[manila, philippines local time 12:51am 14 Jun 2003] Forgetting Where I Am I almost forgot that I was in the Philipines today. We went to the movies to see Bruce Almighty. Movies tend to come out here at almost the same time as they do in the US. it only cost 230 pesos, that's about $2.25! It's so freakin cheap. The movie theatres here do reserved seating. It's a great system, but the US is the only one that doesn't do it. But as I was leaving the theatre, I forgot tha tI was in the Philippines. I think it was because I was watching an American movie filmed at Universal Studios, a place that I am very familiar with. I gotta remember what country I am in. posted at 9:51 AM by Super Ben Thursday, June 12, 2003 [manila, philippines local time 12:41am 13 Jun 2003] Maids and Drivers It is very wierd to be in a house where there are maids and servants serving you. My Tita Aurora is very rich. But "domestic helpers" here are not like in the US. They aren't even introduced to others. In the US, we invite the driver out to eat with us if we want and we speak to houskeepers that live with the family like a family friend. The other day, my cousin came home at 3:00am and she honked right outside of the house to wake up one of the maids to open up the garage. She waited outside for 3-5 minutes so that the girl can open it, which took like 30 seconds. What the hell is that about? My sister and her were asking about that, and she said that it was because it was her job. and the driver doesn't live at this house. He actually lives at the other house. His place here is just a big space to lay down in above a closet in the garage. WTF? posted at 9:42 AM by Super Ben Monday, June 09, 2003 [lumban, laguna, philippines, local time 18:43] Actual Time It actually took me 32 hours to get to Lumban from San Luis Obispo. That's about a day and a half! It's pretty hot and humid here. I mean VERY hot and humid. I hate feeling sticky like this. Dial-up My sister and I are on a computer network that is all sharing a dial up conection. It is hella slow. good thing there are only two os us using. I think the modem connected at 33.6kbps. Very slow! posted at 3:32 AM by Super Ben |
