[marriott residence inn, salt lake city, ut] Teaching Again Earlier today I taught a girl how to use a staple remover. She had never used one in her life. That was wierd. I sometimes like to call it the staple eater. The Mormon Religion Being amonst many people here in Salt Lake has fueled me with many questions. There are several Mormon people in class and they are welcoming of my questions. I pursued my goal of attaining knowledge. Most of my questions are, "What is the Mormon view on...[insert subject here]?" And they do not hesitate to provide me with detailed information. I guess I was intimidated by the Mormon's in California. We've always had this view of them forcing the religion upon you. but I guess it is not really true. posted at 8:31 PM by Super Ben Friday, June 27, 2003 [marriott residence inn, salt lake city] Clean Downtown I have never seen a city so clean in my life. Downtown Salt Lake is so clean and there is hardly any traffic. Needed some clothes I only brought business and standard attire to training with me. So it was off to the GAP. I got 2 outfits for under $40. You can go wrong with two outfits for under $40. I went and bought some shoes for $30. Movies in Utah Because I was shopping. I was almost late to see the movie. I saw the new Charlie's Angels movie with a couple classmates. When I walked in, I saw huge beanbags in the front row where people could kick back and watch. I would never want to sit that close to the screen. There were more huge bean bags up in the seating area also. That was wierd. The movie itself was OK. The flimmakers tried to hard to put many special effects in. Sunlight at Night When we left the movie theatre, I looked up at the sky and saw the darkness go to light in the distance. It was still a tad bit of day near the horizon. There is definitely something wrong with the sun here. Someone needs to turn it off at the right time. posted at 10:56 PM by Super Ben [marriott residence inn, salt lake city, ut] Unexpectedly Meeting the CEO I met the CEO of Skywest Ailines today. I was very surprised. During breaktime, I was standing in the hall. I saw a man approaching our group. One of the instructors introduced him as Jerry Atkin. I automatically knew who he was. I had known that one can see him walking around the company, but I wasn't expecting to see him on my second day here. He is uaually at Corporate in St. George. posted at 4:07 PM by Super Ben Thursday, June 26, 2003 [marriott residence inn, salt lake city, ut] First Day My first day of training went rather well. I met quite a few people and everyone seems pretty nice. One guy from the SF Bay Area, is pretty similar to me. He's a world traveler and is pretty educated also. A lot of the others are moving form other airlines. There is even one guy that was an airline pilot. There are quite a bit of different people here. I like my class and hope that we all make it through. I wonder what we will do tomorrow. posted at 4:39 PM by Super Ben [marriott residence inn, salt lake city, ut] Burned Sleeve Man! In preparation for training today, I burned the sleeve of my white shirt a couple minutes ago. I was ironing and dropped something. I went to pick it up and saw steam rising. And when I lifted the iron up, there was a brown spot. dang. It was my only long sleeved white shirt. So it's time to call mom and have her send me one. I might need to have one for training. posted at 6:16 AM by Super Ben Tuesday, June 24, 2003 [home, slo, ca] Final Day My day has been pretty mellow. Nothing fancy for my last day. I just had a lot of things to take care of like shutting off the cable, DSL, electricity and stuff. I don't want to pay for things taht I am not using. I was supposed to pay for the whole months rent, but I found someone to live in the apartment for one month. I really couldn't afford that, especiall with as many things as I needed to buy. Shopping! Yay! Today I had to buy a lot of white polo shirts, white dress shirts, a wristwatch, dress socks, and a pair of shoes. I really liked spending money and not keeping track of it because I knew I had enough. I didn't know until today that I would have enough. thanks Ai for coming to my rescue. posted at 11:08 PM by Super Ben [home, slo, ca] Studied Out I haven't studied for along time, but I had to study the flight attendant packet to prepare for the job. There is a test on the first day and I don't want to fail. If I fail, I will be sent back. I have a lot of lines to memorize and this is not something you can do last minute. But i am tired of studying, I want to read Harry Potter, but I know that I can't have any distractions. posted at 1:07 AM by Super Ben Sunday, June 22, 2003 [home, slo, ca] Long Round Trip I took a long round trip today so that I could drop off some stuff in Lathrop. I had to drive back the same day because I had to work the next morning. I drove from SLO to SF first (about 4 hours) then to Lathrop and Stockton (about 1 hour) and back to SLO (about 3.5 hours). And damn am I tired. We left at 8:30am and got back at 9:30 on. What a long day. posted at 11:11 PM by Super Ben |
